Citi-Dis-Arts
The Citadel Arts Centre has been successful in securing a grant from the Big Lottery Fund’s Reaching Communities programme to run Citi-Dis-Arts, a five year project of arts based activities for disabled, vulnerable and elderly people in St Helens.
Citi-Dis-Arts will enable disabled, vulnerable and elderly people from all wards of the borough to participate in weekly arts workshops, mentoring, work placements and a project steering group to build confidence, self esteem and develop skills to enable them to fully engage in the communities in which they live.
The unique five year Citi-Dis-Arts project was developed in consultation with groups, individuals and stakeholders throughout the borough of St Helens. The project is match funded by St Helens Council’s Adult Social Care and Health and was supported by thier Cultural Funding Advisor.
The Citi-Dis-Arts project will be launched in the autumn of 2010 with activities starting in January 2011.
Citadel Chief Executive, Fay Lamb comments: “The Citadel Arts Centre is extremely pleased with the success of the Citi-Dis-Arts grant and grateful to The Big Lottery Reaching Communities Fund for supporting such an important project. We are looking forward to working with our partners, stakeholders and participants to delivery the five year programme of Citi-Dis-Arts activity which we are sure will make a real difference to the lives of disabled, vulnerable and elderly people in St Helens and have a positive impact across the borough.”

The Citadel concentrates on programming activities that are open to all, regardless of ability. The classes run on a weekly basis covering many different areas of art, from writing to painting, modelling to circus skills!
