About Hands On Drama

The Community Arts Team at the Citadel run weekly drama workshops. The workshops explore many aspects of drama & theatrical performance such as improvisation, movement & vocals skills, mime, physical theatre and script work. There are also opportunites to devise in house performances. The workshops are devided into 2 groups. 7 - 11 years and 12+. All groups work towards two performances each year, one in summer and of course our famous Christmas Pantomime! The sessions are lead by experienced drama practitioners.

Drama activites are open access, meaning anybody with an interest in drama can attend - you won't need an audition to attend the sessions.

The workshops cost £5 per session, or £2.50 for concessions.

If you are interested in attending, or if you have any questions about the Hands On drama workshops, please contact The Citadel on 01744 735436 or by e-mail: info@citadel.org.uk

Past Productions

Hands On have produced many productions over the years, both inside the Citadel and out in the community. Recent in house productions include Breezeblock Park, The Twits, Our Day Out and Road. We have also produced many site specific performances, recent highlights include Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, which was performed in various locations around Taylor Park. We also devised and wrote a new play called Solstice, based upon the famous story of the notorious Pendle Witches, and this again was performed in Taylor Park. In July 2010 we performed Citadel Down't Pit at Dream, Sutton Manor Colliery. The first Pantomime was performed in the building back in 1863, when the Citadel was the town's Theatre Royal. This tradition is now continued, many years later, by the Hands On team.
