‘Wasted’ A film by Citadel Arts Youth Theatre

Citadel Arts, Cultured (St Helens Local Cultural Education Partnership) and St Helens Young People’s Drug and Alcohol Team have jointly commissioned an alcohol awareness project to tackle the issue of teenage alcohol consumption in St Helens.

This commission was created in response to the fact that St Helens has some of the highest rates in the country for alcohol related harm in our adult population, and recent data shows we have one of the highest rates of under 18 admissions to hospital linked to alcohol use.  More young people than ever before are telling us that they are choosing not to drink alcohol.  This is a choice that we want more young people to adopt. The consequences of underage drinking can be significant for young people and those that do choose to drink are at risk of both long and short-term harms.

The Citadel Arts Youth Theatre worked with media company, Attain Productions to create a powerful short film which champions positive choices for young people. In an exciting 7-week project the group had the opportunity to get involved in the film making process; from storyboarding to scripting, performing in front of the camera and editing the final product.   The young people used their own experiences to help shape the content of the film which will be presented to Year 8 students in secondary schools in St Helens as part of a workshop which explores the effects of alcohol consumption, actions and consequences and signposts young people to positive activities they can take part in.
